Jefferson County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Byron Booker as principal of Rush Strong School for the 2026–2027 school year.

Jefferson County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Byron Booker as principal of Rush Strong School for the 2026–2027 school year. Dr. Booker brings a strong background in instructional leadership and a deep commitment to student success, having most recently served as assistant professor of education, assistant chair of graduate education, and director of the TESOL educator preparation program at Carson-Newman University. In these roles, he taught courses in curriculum, instruction, leadership, and assessment while preparing future educators.

Dr. Booker holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and brings more than 30 years of professional experience, including 18 years in preK–12 education as both a classroom teacher and administrator in East Tennessee. His career has been marked by a focus on instructional excellence, leadership development, and supporting diverse learners.

Dr. Booker looks forward to the opportunity to lead Rush Strong School and to building strong partnerships with students, staff, families, and the community.
