JCHS FFA Chapter "3 Star National Chapter Award"

JCHS FFA Officers

This is the first time Jefferson County has received the 3-star award.  We have been 2-star the past 2 years.  The National Chapter Award is only available to those chapters that are rated as a State Superior Chapter and is based on the prior year's activities including classroom instruction, FFA competitions, and student Supervised Agricultural Experience programs.  Only the top 10 percent of state superior chapter applications are submitted to the National judging.  Three star is the highest level of the National Chapter awards and goes to those chapters that display a high level of achievement in each of the three quality areas:  Growing Leaders, building communities, and strengthening agriculture.  In Tennessee, 17 FFA chapters were recognized as 3-star with Jefferson County being one of only 2 from the East Tennessee Region.  The efforts of our chapter officers and other involved members are what made this award possible. Watch the video on the CTE Jefferson County Facebook Page.

JCHS TSSAA Award

The A.F. Bridges Awards are given in honor of the TSSAA’s first executive secretary. He served as executive secretary from 1946 until his retirement in 1972. Under his leadership, athletics in the state of Tennessee reached a level of excellence and competence that earned the respect of all people. Bridges was a person of high principles who displayed firmness and fairness, as well as the high ideals of ethics and integrity as he and many other school people established the foundations of the TSSAA. The A.F. Bridges Awards program includes divisional awards for schools that have shown exemplary sportsmanship and awards for individuals in the categories of School System Administrator of the Year, Principal of the Year, Athletic Director of the Year, Female Coach of the Year, Male Coach of the Year, Official of the Year, and Contributor of the Year. In total, the awards recognize 63 individuals and as many as 27 schools from all parts of the state that represent what’s best in high school athletics. Nominations were made by a Citizenship/Sportsmanship Committee and member schools in each athletic district and the final selection was made by a State Selection Committee.

Jefferson County’s nomination for this past athletics calendar year marks the first time the school was tabbed as a finalist since 1993.
