JCreate is a public showcase of student-created art and literature displayed at our four middle schools, with plans to expand to high-traffic areas across Jefferson County, such as parks, schools, and libraries. Each sign features a piece of student work—whether it's poetry, short stories, visual art, or music—along with a QR code (like the one you may have scanned to access this page) that links to the student’s work online. This allows you to explore the creative pieces more deeply, learn about the students who created them, and connect with the talent behind the art. 

• Interactive Experience: When you scan a QR code, you can access the student’s work digitally. You’ll be able to view their poetry, artwork, music, or stories, and even learn more about the student creator’s inspiration and background. 
• Accessible to All: JCreate bridges the gap between physical displays and digital exploration, making it easy for anyone in the community to engage with student creativity, whether they’re at the sign location or at home. 

Mina Blaylock, a 7th grade English Language Arts teacher in Jefferson County, was inspired by the successful poetry trail in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. With a vision to bring a similar project to Jefferson County, she proposed JCreate. This initiative aims to engage the community and celebrate the creative expressions of our youth, highlighting the incredible talent of young people in Jefferson County.

Here’s how JCreate came to life: 

• Teacher Collaboration: The project was introduced to Jefferson County’s ELA teachers, who helped guide students in creating their works. Teachers encouraged a variety of submissions, including written pieces, visual art, and music. 
• Student Submissions: Once students learned about the project, they were invited to submit their works. They contributed poems, stories, art, and even music compositions, with each piece representing their unique creative expression. 
• Selection and Display: After submissions were collected, a panel of educators—including teachers, district leaders, and our local literacy council—selected the best works to be featured along the trail. The displayed pieces showcase the diverse talents of students from all grade levels. 
• Bringing the Trail to Life: The finished signs were installed in public spaces throughout the county, making the student works accessible to residents and visitors alike. 

• Celebrating Student Talent: JCreate offers students an exciting way to share their work with the community, increasing the visibility of their creativity and boosting their confidence. 
• Fostering Artistic Expression: The project encourages students to express themselves through art, literature, and music, promoting a love for the creative process and inspiring others to explore their artistic potential. 
• Building Community Connections: By engaging with student works, the community becomes more connected with the educational experience and the importance of supporting the arts.
